Raleigh Stuntman Bike Introduction
I am not sure if you know this, but Raleigh is one of the best bike companies in existence.
They started manufacturing road bikes and now have shifted their production lines towards adventure bikes.
As part of this shift, they have designed the Raleigh stuntman which is a unique bike that slots in between an adventure or monster class category of bikes.
Note that Raleigh began building bicycles in 1987. And since then, the firm has developed a wide selection offering including road, mountain, cross, hybrid, comfort, cruise, and kids bicycles.
The company is known to feature cutting-edge materials and design to ensure some of the best and ultimate rides every single time.
What does Raleigh offer?
Raleigh manufactures bicycles for different sized people (tall or not).
Most of their bicycles use varieties of materials such as aluminum, lightweight carbon fiber composite frames, and steel.
What is good about this company is that they offer women-specific bicycles. These are specially designed to fit the average female physique.
I have to say that this is some form of innovation when you compare Raleigh’s to other companies on the bike market. Very few companies in the same market segment would consider focusing on women needs.
This is definitely not Raleigh’s philosophy. They want both men and women to use their bikes and they ensure everyone knows about this.
What are the stuntman bike features?
The Raleigh stuntman is a backcountry bike designed for climbing up and down the mountain pass on bike packing trips and testing limits on the unchartered trails.
The frame on this bike delivers legendary, buttery-smooth rides.
It has mechanical disc brakes for great stopping power in inclement weather and the front and rear hubs for a shifter more responsive rides.
The Reynolds steel and full alloy fork provide the foundation for your stunts.
The Raleigh stuntman uses a new tubing from Reynolds 631 butted Chromoly. This allows it to create tire clearance the old fashioned way using crazy long chainstays. The long wheelbase and relaxed position damp its creativity.
The stuntman was designed exclusively to be used with a single chainring drivetrain.
The single gear cable on the Raleigh Stuntman is externally routed.
Note that the cable is not fully housed from shifter to rear derailleur but run beneath the down tube. Internalizing the rear brake cables helps Raleigh to avoid a mess of the cables on the downtube.
Some extra technical information
The Raleigh Stuntman stem is a Kalloy 3D unit available in 90 mm, 100 mm and 110 mm in length.
The handlebar is available in 40 cm, 42 cm, and 44 cm width.
The integrated cartridge bearing headset keeps the entire aluminum fork on the track. The dropper post cables are beneath the bottom bracket and enter the frame to connect to the seat post.
The Raleigh has a classic road saddle made from leather with stainless steel rack that sits at the top of the seat post which measures 27.33 mm in diameter.
What I’d say is that the bike is not for average riders but for people who are willing to test their limits in the rough trails and wilderness.
The geometry is more road than mountain particularly compared to modern long and slack trail bikes.
How to mount the bike?
This is how you assemble the Raleigh Stuntman bike:
First, you will need to get some of these tools:
- A multi-tool with a 6 mm hex key as well as a smaller hex key for small and minor adjustments.
- Standard sized Philips head screwdriver, an adjustable wrench, and scissors.
Now you have to make sure all the items are located on the set. If you miss something, return the bike right away. Note that this is highly unlikely to happen as Raleigh have a very strong quality checking system.
When you’re done checking that you have all of the parts, carefully pull the bike out of the box.
Remove the safety plastic cups around the bike. If your handlebars are tangled rotate them clockwise or anti-clockwise to untangle them.
Now, you can start tightening the pedals on each side making sure that it is tight at the base of the pedal and the screws are in place.
More details on unpacking and mounting your bike
Remove the safety stand at the bottom of the front tire fork in order to put the front tire on.
Now, proceed in locating the screw that is appropriate for the front brake which is a silver cap that is connected to a silver wire on the right side of the brake pad.
Once you locate it, carefully unscrew the cap so as to loosen up and have enough room to slide the tire on.
Proceed to unscrew the nuts that are located on the front tire and slide them onto the front fork then you pull the brake pads out of the way and slide the fork onto the tire.
Once you are finished proceed to tighten the nuts back on the front tire and adjust the front brake pads by pulling the silver wire tight and hold them in place. Then tighten the screw back up and you can use the adjustable wrench to tighten the nuts.
Slide the front reflector light onto the handlebar and use a Philips head screwdriver to tighten it up. Then slide the handlebars onto the bike’s body.
If it gets stuck, adjust it using the rotating screw located at the bottom of the handlebar making sure it aligns correctly with the body of the bike and slide it in place then tighten the handlebars using a wrench.
Take the 5 mm hex key to adjust the screw at the top of the brake levers and rotate them around and set them in place.
Final mounting steps
Make sure the handlebars are comfortable and not backward and do not strain your wrists when you use it. Test both the handbrake to make sure that they work properly for both the front and bike tire.
Then first slides the light reflector on the seat post and screw it in place and ensure that the back quick-release clamp holds the seat in place and that it attaches in the seat post.
